Ghana confirms 24 coronavirus cases

Ghana has reported 24 cases of the Covid-19 pandemic. This includes only one fatality, a person said to have had an underlying chronic heart condition prior to being infected with the Coronavirus.

According to the Ghana Health Service, the confirmed cases come from a total of 315 suspected cases which have been tested for COVID-19 by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research KCCR, as of 22nd March, 2020, at 1400hrs.

Among the confirmed cases, 17 are Ghanaians, while the seven other nationals are from Norway, Lebanon, China, France and the UK.

The Ghana Health Service says 575 contacts have been identified and are being tracked.

Meanwhile, WHO has warned African countries to prepare for the worst, as more than one thousand people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in 42 countries across the continent.

On a global scale, more than 304,500 people have been diagnosed with the infection, while nearly 13 thousand people have died from the disease.
