The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially extended the deadline for transitioning to the new gold trading license regime to June 21, 2025. This comes after receiving several petitions from stakeholders across the gold sector.

This extension allows individuals and companies who hold licenses previously issued by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and/or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to continue trading in gold until the new date.

GoldBod, however, emphasized that no further extensions will be granted. After June 21, 2025, only those who have obtained a valid GoldBod license will be legally allowed to buy, sell, or deal in gold in Ghana.

The Board warned that continuing to operate under the old PMMC or Ministry licenses after the deadline is a criminal offense under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).

GoldBod also stated that with immediate effect from May 22, 2025, all export rights previously held under the old licenses are no longer valid. Only GoldBod as a corporate entity can now export small-scale gold from Ghana.

GoldBod is encouraging all individuals and businesses interested in gold trading to apply for a license through their website: www.goldbod.gov.gh.

The Board clarified that while applications for licenses will continue after the June deadline, anyone without a GoldBod license will not be allowed to trade or deal in gold beyond that point.

GoldBod expressed appreciation for the cooperation of stakeholders and the public, emphasizing that the transition is part of a broader national effort to ensure Ghana benefits more from its gold resources—aligned with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama.
