The Director General of the National Sports Authority Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah along with the Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund Dr David Waaku have met the President of World Bowls Mr Brett O’Reilly to discuss the potential of investment in the sport in Ghana.

The high profile discussions included Lady Sue Beatt a Board member of World Bowls and the CEO of World Bowls Mr Neil Dalrymple.

The talks centered around the long term investment, promotion and development of Bowls in Ghana as a lead station to the introduction and extension of the sport across West Africa.

The sport of lawn bowls is experiencing a modern revival, driven by a younger fan base and players with relaxed dress codes, colorful equipment, music and major upcoming events like the 2027 World Bowls Championships in England.

The National Sports Authority launched the Ghana Bowls Federation in June 2025 to introduce inclusive programs, youth training, and community engagement. The Federation then hosted the first-ever official bowls competition in West Africa at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex in Accra, backed by international development support from World Bowls.

Also in attendance at the meeting held at the Commonwealth Games Bowls Arena was Mr Charles Amofah, President of Bowls Ghana who facilitated the meeting and delivered a presentation on the potential of Ghana hosting the maiden West Africa Bowls Championship in early 2027.
