The Ghana Health Service has confirmed two Mpox cases in the Accra Metropolitan Area of the Greater Accra Region. The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service said, they are working closely to ensure that all necessary public health measures are swiftly and effectively implemented to contain the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service wish to reassure the general public that there is no cause for widespread alarm.

Upon confirmation of these two cases, the Ghana Health Service says it  has immediately initiated contact tracing efforts to identify individuals who may have come into contact with the confirmed cases. These contacts will be monitored for symptoms and provided with appropriate care and guidance.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, is committed to protecting the health and well-being of all citizens and residents.

The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service have intensified public awareness campaigns to educate the public about Mpox. These efforts focus on informing people about its symptoms, how it spreads, and the steps to prevent infection.

The public is being urged to practice good hand hygiene, avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms—such as a rash—and promptly report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility.
