Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, says preliminary investigations into the mysterious deaths at Tema Newtown reveals that most of the deaths were due to hypertension and not spiritually linked as been speculated.

He told GBC’s Felix Cofie that 16 people have died between 29th October and 7th November from two different communities in Tema.

He said a surveillance team is still on the ground monitoring the situation.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare said it is rather unfortunate that some are attributing the deaths to spirits.

He urged residents of Tema not to heed calls to go take spiritual baths in the sea.
