Ghana joins to mark World Forest Day

Today March 21 is World Forest Day, set aside by the UN  to sensitize the public on the need to conserve the forest, since it contributes to the survival of the human race, as well as other living creatures including the fauna and flaura.

The global theme for this year’s celebration is ”Forest and Biodiversity”, while that of Ghana is ”Protecting Forest and Biodiversity for Human Survival”.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana at Sefwi Wiawso, the Western North Regional capital, the District Manager of the Forest Services Department, Nana Poku Bosompim, underscored the importance of forest to mankind, and stressed the need to integrate tree planting in urban development.

He also suggested that forest conservation should go with law enforcement, and asked all stakeholders to get involved and avoid interfering in forest conservation issues with politics.
