A Professor of Fisheries at University of British Columbia in Canada, Rashid Sumaila, has challenged government to take a bold step to reduce or eliminate subsidies directed to the fisheries sector.
He said the practice which has become a global challenge is against the Sustainable Development Goals and Ghana must set a good example by redirecting such subsidies into the fishing communities.
Prof. Sumaila was opening the Second National Conference on Fisheries and Coastal Environment in Accra.
