The head of Professional Development Department of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Matthew Adjadja, has described the current curriculum and the mode of assessing pupils and schools as result specific and examination oriented which do not guarantee all round students and quality education.
According to him, Ghana needs what he described as standard curriculum that gives room for critical thinking, skills development and cultural values instead of objective based curriculum.
Mr. Adjadja was speaking with GBC’s correspondent Kingsley Nana Boadu in Cape Coast after the opening of a three day training for 130 teachers from Central, Ashanti and Western regions about curriculum development and mode assessment in anticipation of the intended curriculum review by GES in September.
Mr. Adjadja bemoaned the practice where some directors of GES contract consultants to set examination questions for schools instead of the teachers who teach the pupils.
This he described as unprofessional and ineffective.
