President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana has placed an order for 1,840 pieces of agricultural machinery and equipment from Belarus to support the country’s agricultural modernisation drive under the Feed Ghana Programme. He says the move marks a practical step in deepening economic cooperation between the two countries beyond diplomatic ties into tangible development outcomes.
President John Dramani Mahama says Ghana’s partnership with Belarus is already yielding concrete results with the procurement of 1,840 agricultural machines and equipment to support mechanised farming across the country.
Addressing the maiden Ghana-Belarus Business Forum in Minsk, the President said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity and improve food security under the government’s Feed Ghana Programme.
“As I speak today, Ghana has placed an order for 1,840 pieces of agricultural equipment from Belarus,” President Mahama disclosed, describing it as a practical demonstration of growing cooperation between the two countries.
He explained that the equipment will be deployed to Farmer Service Centres being established across Ghana to provide machinery, technical support and modern farming services to farmers.
President Mahama stressed that the partnership goes beyond equipment supply, noting that Ghana is also opening opportunities for Belarusian investment in commercial farming, irrigation development, fertiliser production, poultry, aquaculture, agro-processing and agricultural logistics.
“The challenge is not the absence of opportunity. The challenge is how to unlock that opportunity,” he said, underscoring the need for stronger private sector collaboration between the two countries.
Beyond agriculture, the President revealed that Belarusian mining equipment manufacturers are expected in Ghana next week to explore investment opportunities in the mining sector.
He added that discussions also covered cooperation in industrial manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology and infrastructure development as Ghana pursues its broader industrialisation agenda.
President Mahama further highlighted Ghana’s investment climate, stating that “Ghana is stable, Ghana is growing and Ghana is open for business,” as he invited Belarusian investors to take advantage of the country’s expanding economy and access to the African Continental Free Trade Area market.
He noted that the engagements were reinforced by the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding covering economic cooperation, agricultural production and collaboration between the chambers of commerce of both countries.
According to him, the agreements are expected to translate into stronger trade relations, technology transfer and long-term business partnerships between Ghana and Belarus.
