Ghana and Qatar have officially begun the full implementation of the newly ratified Ghana-Qatar labour mobility agreement, expanding employment opportunities for Ghanaians in Qatar through a transparent and credible recruitment process.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Doha Forum, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed gratitude to His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, Qatar’s Minister for Labour, for his warm hospitality.

The discussions reinforced a mutual commitment to protecting the rights and improving the working conditions of Ghanaian workers across key sectors.

Official data shows about 13,000 Ghanaians are currently employed in Qatar. Under the agreement, Ghana aims to double this number within a year and reach 50,000 in the medium term.

The partnership will open doors in industries such as aviation, tourism, IT, logistics, transportation, and public health.

The first meeting of the Ghana-Qatar Joint Technical Committee to oversee implementation is set for Ghana in February 2026. Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the government’s dedication to creating jobs for Ghanaian youth both locally and abroad through smart policies and strong international cooperation.

He concluded with a message of goodwill: “God bless Ghana and Qatar relations.”
