Ghana remains Coronavirus free

The Ghana Health Service has confirmed that the two suspected cases of the novel Coronavirus reported to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) on Wednesday have tested negative.

A statement by the Ministry of Health on Thursday said there have been nine suspected cases of the Coronavirus in Ghana but all of them have tested negative and advised citizens to adhere to all the preventive measures and also not to panic.

“As at 6th February, 2020, there have been 28,280 confirmed cases and 565 deaths globally. Here in Ghana we have recorded nine suspected cases including the recent two from Korle bu Teaching Hospital. All of these cases have tested negative,” the statement said.

A Chinese and an Argentine reported to the KBTH on Wednesday evening with symptoms of the virus. Another suspected case was recorded at the Kotoka International Airport.

Blood samples from the patients which were taken to the Noguchi Medical Research Institute for testing proved negative.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has given assurance that “Government, Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service working in collaboration with partners are doing everything possible to prevent and protect against the importation of the virus into the country and prevent spread.”
