The Ministry of Defence has stepped up security measures along Ghana’s eastern frontier following reports of political instability in neighbouring Togo.

Responding to questions on the floor of Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, on Thursday November 6, 2025, the Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, said the Ministry has adopted a comprehensive contingency framework to address potential cross-border security threats.

According to Mr. Genfi, the Ghana Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies, has intensified joint patrols along the Ghana-Togo border to prevent infiltration, maintain territorial integrity, and safeguard the country’s sovereignty.

He further disclosed that humanitarian logistics have been prepositioned at designated reception centres to manage possible refugee inflows should the situation in Togo escalate.

Mr. Genfi noted that troops have been instructed to exercise maximum restraint and to engage only in response to direct and imminent threats. He assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure peace and stability within Ghana’s borders.

“The Ministry remains committed to protecting the sovereignty and dignity of Ghana while ensuring the safety of citizens in border communities,” he said.

He also revealed that the Defence Ministry is incorporating the use of local languages in its communication and information operations to enhance understanding and cooperation with local communities.

“The use of local languages will help explain our role to the people and strengthen collaboration in maintaining security along the borders,” the Deputy Minister added.

The measures form part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Defence to maintain vigilance and readiness amid growing instability in the sub-region.
