Ghana and Thailand are taking concrete steps to deepen their economic fortunes.

In line with this, the first Ghana-Thailand Senior Officials meeting was held on Thursday, August 8, 2019,  at Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra.

The meeting is to provide the platform for both countries to touch base on various areas of possible cooperation. It is also to provide the opportunity for the two countries to suggest ways to improve their economic bonds.

The meeting is the first of its kind between the Asian nation and its West African counterpart.

Ambassador Sammie Eddico, speaking at the meeting, called for continuous collaboration between the officials of both countries.

He noted that the next Senior Officials meeting would be held in Thailand at a date yet to be decided.

Ambassador Eddico said although in 2006, Accra and Bangkok signed a protocol to establish a Thailand Ghana joint commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical cooperation, this and other agreement to bolster collaboration between the two countries have yielded little results.

He therefore said the renewed partnership will be more robust. He therefore entreated the Officials to form technical working groups in their respective countries that would monitor the status of implementation of the decisions taken during the meeting.

The Director General of South Asia, Middle East and African affairs at the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Jesda Katavetin welcomed the new partnership. He said Thailand stands ready to work with Ghana especially in the field of agribusiness. He said the cultural similarities between the two countries will make the partnership even more smoother.
