Ghana’s protracted hunt for a new Black Stars head coach nears its end, with Sports Minister Kofi Adams announcing an appointment by Monday. In an interview on Channel One TV’s Upside Down, Adams said final discussions involve just a few remaining candidates.

“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, latest by Monday we should be able to announce our new coach,” Adams stated, underscoring the process’s advanced stage.

With under 70 days until Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against England in Group L (with Croatia and Panama), the delay raises readiness concerns. High-profile links include Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, all with elite international pedigrees.

Adams admitted the team isn’t fully prepared without a coach but remains hopeful: “If I tell you that we are ready today, we don’t even have a head coach… But I see us being ready by the time it’s time for us to play our first game.” He praised the squad’s potential for a deep run despite lacking past star power.

Friendlies against Mexico and Wales loom as key tests, building cohesion before the June 17 Toronto kickoff. Fans await the GFA’s decisive move to ignite Ghana’s World Cup dreams.
