Ghana will be the first country in the world to benefit from the use of pre-screening intervention in the fight against gestational diabetes in women.

Gestational diabetes is one of the causes of maternal mortality.

The new pre-screening is an intervention that will utilize diet, education and exercises to prevent gestational diabetes and manage women who develop it.

A Lecturer and Co-ordinator of the project, Dr Samuel Okyere in an interview with GBC’s Gloria Anderson at the launch of the pilot project in Accra said the prescreening will greatly reduce the number of women suffering from gestational diabetes and also provide statistics on how serious the situation is in Ghana.
