Ghana to repatriate 10 foreign nationals tested positive for coronavirus

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, says the 10 foreign nationals who have tested positive for coronavirus in Tamale will be repatriated for treatment.

They are Guineans who travelled through Burkina Faso and Togo to Ghana and were picked following intelligence report.

Briefing journalists in Accra, Mr Oppong Nkrumah confirmed that the 10 nationals arrived in the country before the borders were closed.

He said that they have been in isolation for the past 12 days and are not showing signs of any sickness yet.

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu said a quarantine centre has been set up in Tamale following the confirmation of 10 new cases of COVID-19.

The Special Advisor on Health at the Presidency, Dr Nsiah Asare said government has adopted proactive measures of containing the virus through regular testing.

He said Ghana will adopt mass testing for Covid-19 instead of waiting to treat infected persons because this has proved effective in other countries.

Director of Operations, Ghana Armed Forces, Col. William Nortey disputed allegations on social media that the military plans to take advantage of the lockdown to abuse the rights of people.
