Ghana’s Paralympic Committee has unveiled the Black Challenge squad for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. The tournament will run from November 13 to 22, with Ghana drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.
At the launch in Accra, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams urged corporate Ghana to support the team before the tournament rather than waiting for success. His appeal followed Gold Fields’ US$500,000 sponsorship pledge, of which US$250,000 is expected to fund World Cup preparations.
Player support
National Paralympic Committee president Samson Deen announced that:
- Each player will receive GH¢10,000 under the Target the Podium initiative.
- Each official will receive GH¢5,000.
- The payments are intended to support morale and practical needs during preparations.
The team is expected to hold a final training camp in Turkey next month before travelling to Mexico. Ghana’s provisional squad contains 20 players, while the final tournament selection will be reduced to 15.
