Ghana's Energy Minister expresses frustration over delay in relocating Karpowership from Tema to Takoradi

Energy Minister John Peter Amewu has expressed frustration over the delay in relocating the Karpowership from Tema to Takoradi as planned.

He said the delay had to do with construction of the pipelines to the ship to receive gas to fire the turbines.

The sector Minister expressed his frustration when he toured the construction site at Aboadze in the western region.

Government earlier this year announced relocating the Karpowership to Takoradi to run on gas from ENI gas.

The relocation is to save the country about 40milliion dallors every month from the Karpower ship use of heavy crude to gas.

However, the relocation will not happen as stipulated as preparation of the site for the relocation is still ongoing.

Minister of Energy John Peter Amewu who visited the site Amandi power to expedite action on the project to ensure it is completed on schedule.

The sector minister also inspected the construction of the Takoradi interconnection project where power from the Karpowership and 200 megawatts of power from Amandi will be send to for onwards distribution.

Mr. Amewu said the project which is almost 95 percent complete will help in solving the country’s energy needs.
