Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Blood Service, Dr. Justice Kordai Ansah says the Service was able to achieve only 37 percent of its voluntary blood donation nationwide.
Dr. Ansah said the 50 percent target of 2018 could not be met because of the absence of an effective legislation that will co-ordinate the activities of blood services nationwide and called for legal backing for the service.
At a Performance Review session in Accra, Dr. Ansah said inadequate number of trained staff to coordinate the activities of the service is seriously hampering work.
She said inadequate vehicles and essential equipment and logistics for the Central and Northern blood centres is also another challenge.
