The much awaited GJA media village project commenced on Monday after a brief ground breaking ceremony at the project site at Pampaso in the Eastern region of Ghana.
A portion of the 25 acre stretch of land has been cleared for the construction of the first 100 housing units within the next 12 months.
Breaking grounds for the project to commence, the Chairman of the Media Village Project Committee, Dr. Doris Yaa Dartey said so far, thirty-two (32) Journalists have paid the initial deposit of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (1,000 GHS), while nine people have paid additional money for the commencement of the project.
GJA President, Roland Affail Monney speaking to the press
The President of the Ghana Journalist Association, (GJA),  Roland Affail Monney said this is a good opportunity that all Journalists must take advantage of. A two bedroom house per the first 100 units costs Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis, (60,000 GHS) while a three bedroom goes for Eighty Thousand Ghana Cedis, (80,000 GHS).
These amounts are payable depending on personal negotiations with the estate company. According to Mr. Monney,  the project will be replicated in the other regions.
He urged all Journalists to take advantage of the initiative and try hard to, as he puts it, squeeze water out of rock, to own a house as the project rolls on.
The land for the media village project is located within a 10 thousand acre stretch of land owned by KOANS Estate, implementers of the project. It overlooks the beautiful green mountains of Nsawam and also serves as home to other institutions and individuals.
The General Manager of KOANS, Dela Kanfra said KOANS has allocated 25 acres for the construction of the first 100 units for the GJA project. He hoped this would be the beginning of a fruitful relationship between the company and the GJA.
