GJA eulogies late Edward Ameyibor

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened a book of condolence for its Former President, Edward Yao Ameyibor at the International Press Centre on Monday, May 20, 2019.

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Roland Affail Monney, in a tribute said, Mr. Ameyibor aka Oga as he was called among the inky fraternity, was a very important personality.

He said Oga became the president of the Association at a time when it was very difficult to practice Journalism in the country under the era of authoritarian rule where the media was the first to be targeted  for the then government and its regime.

Adding that, despite all odds, the late Edward Ameyibor proved that he had a heart of steel as to how he steer the affairs of the Association.

Mr. Monney also mentioned that the late former President’s greatest strength was in the area of mentor-ship and that he mentored a lot of journalist.

He went on to describe the late Mr. Ameyibor as a symbol of quality leadership, mentor-ship, professional exhibits, love, humility as well as a symbol of friendliness.

The late Edward Yao Ameyibor’s patriotism, high regard for professionalism and ethics; as well as his rich sense of humour, which always served as a laudable asset for conflict resolution and peace building, have also been praised.

Mr. Edward Yao Ameyibor (Oga) who served as a former Supervising Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency, (GNA) died at the age of 76.

Until his death, he was the General Secretary of the SSNIT Pensioners Association and the Vice President of Help Age Ghana and also a General Manager of a Tamale-based Diamond FM and also a Media Consultant.

He served as the president of the Ghana Journalist Association from 1988 to 1993.

The veteran journalist is said to have died at the Trust Hospital at Osu on, Monday, May 13.

A family spokesperson who spoke at a brief ceremony said burial and funeral arrangements are scheduled to take place on the July 5, 2019 in Tema Community 9.

The event was attended by three former GJA Presidents, Chairman of the National Media Commission of Ghana, Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, Gifty Afenyi Dadzie and Adjoa Yeboah Afari.

Past and President Editors of various media houses, including the Director of News, Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mrs. Mavis Kitcher, the Editor, Ghanaian Times and Immediate Past General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, Dave Agbenu, the managing editor at the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. Senior Journalists and Editors.
