Global Community Joins Ghana To Bid Kofi Annan Farewell

The funeral rites of the late former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan indeed brought people from all walks of life, putting Ghana in spotlight on the global stage.

Tributes from the highest to the least person at funeral paid glowing tribute to the global icon who many believed led a meaningful life.

The solemn ceremony was opened with a solo by the soprano and human rights campaigner Barbara Hendricks amid intermittent hymns and other performances.

The about two hour ceremony ended the three day national mourning which saw hundreds of people filing past the remains of the late statesman.

So what did the late Kofi Annan mean to the thousands of people who throng the funeral grounds to bid him farewell.

For the daughter Ghana’s first President, Samia Nkrumah, the late Kofi Annan represented Africa well making the continent proud. Her hope was that Africa will have a permanent seat at the UN Security Council

The flagbearer of the All People’s Congress, APC, Hassan Ayariga bemoaned the fact that Ghana did not take full advantage of the late Kofi Annan as the world did stressing that Ghana needs to make good use her prominent personalities while they are alive

A Minster at the Presidency in Cameroon, Diong Gutte who represented the President of Cameroon said their country will forever be grateful to Kofi Annan for the role he played in settling the impasse between Nigeria and Cameroon.
