The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, says the decision to extend passport renewals is borne out of the consideration government has for the financial strain renewals cost Ghanaians, especially those living outside the country.

Speaking to GBC’s Parliamentary Correspondent Augustus Acquaye, she added that the decision was also based on administrative challenges.

Commenting on recent US visa restrictions on Ghanaian Authorities, the Minister said Government has requested from the United States, details of the supposed seven thousand Ghanaian citizens, who are set to be deported.

According to her, some doubts still exist about the nationalities of all the people lined up for deportation from the US.

She explained that there are certain procedures government has to undertake to ascertain whether all the prospective deportees are Ghanaians as is claimed by the US Government.
