Chairman of the Ghana Education Service Council, Michael Nsowah says government will provide security for candidates sitting for the BECE within the Chereponi enclave although it could have negative effect on the students as the presence of security personnel will put pressure on them.

Speaking to Ibrahim Kwarteng on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘Behind the News’, Mr. Nsowah gave the assurance that teachers who have fled the area due to the clashes will return to the classroom.

The pupils have lost more than a month of contact hours and as the day to the crucial first exams for the young people approaches, schools have shut down due to renewed clashes.

Meanwhile, Minister for the North East Region, Solomon Boer has confirmed that calm has returned to Chereponi and factions involved in the clashes are observing a ceasefire.

A team of leaders from the Chokosi and Kokomba ethnic groups led by the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul visited the area to appeal to their leaders to ceasefire after clashes between the two groups led to the death of two persons and left many injured.
