Government urged to urgently rebuild Kazigu dam

The Government has been called upon to as a matter of urgency, help reconstruct the canals of the Kazigu dam in the Kasena Nankan West of the Upper East Region.

The call was made by the Kazigu Chief Pe Paarekuri Asanchera Aluah II, during the 8th annual Womdia-Abu festival celebration under the 10th Anniversary of his enskinment on the theme: ‘Religious Unity in Diversity, Role of Chiefs and Religious Leaders in Uniting Kasena Nankana Area and Ghana as a whole’.

Womdia-Abu literally meaning “who is not my child” so let the children eat of the produce during the harvest.

In times past, a child could plug and eat food from any farm to his satisfaction without being considered a thief.

The trend has change as modernity seems to cut away many noble traditions. Hence the need to celebrate Womdia-Abu to protect some cultures going completely extinct.

The festival us celebrated by the Chief and people of the Kazigu traditonal area, to give thanks to their ancestors for a successful farming season.

Speaking to gbcghanaonline, Pe Aluah lauded the government for the pro-poor policies such as planting for food and jobs, One-Village-One-Dam among others saying it has help improve the lives of the rural people.

He however, lamented that his community is a victim of stall projects started by succeeding government and never completed and that such  attitudes retards the development of the country since governance is a continues process.

Regarding the upcoming Referendum, he call on the government to give chiefs thirty per cent at the local level because it appears chiefs are being eliminated at the local government yet they are the custodians of the local people.

The District Chief Executive for Kasena Nankana West Gerard Ataogye who read a speech on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister stated that indicated that, the government is aware of the developmental challenges confronting the Kasena Nankana area and Ghana as a whole and had envisaged various policies and programmes to change the face of Ghana.

He therefore advised the people to embrace those that are being rolled out already to enhance their lives.

The Upper East Regional Maulvi of the Ahamadiya Muslim Mission Mohammed Quaye, spoke on Religious Unity and Diversity in the Muslim perspective saying as Ghanaians we are all one people with a common destiny and must work together to bring about the needed development Ghana need.

Other Chiefs from the adjoining communities graced the occasion prominent among them were the Paramount Chief Paga Traditional area,  Pe  Charles Awanpanga II, the Chuchuliga Chief and Head of Christian Chiefs, Kasena Nankana South zone Francis Asangalisah students among others.

The occasion was used to appeal for fun for the construction of Bishop Abadamloora Girls Senior High. The festival was sponsored by World Vision Ghana.
