The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery says government has given approval for massive recruitment into the various security services.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister said this will go a long way to reduce unemployment in the country and also solve the problem of deviant behaviour by the youth.
The issue came up at a capacity workshop in Accra by the West Africa Centre for Counter Extremism, (WACCE), as part of efforts to address the challenge of extremism and youth vulnerability.
The two-day capacity workshop is to strengthen and prepare 100 youth leaders and members of vigilante groups as effective peace ambassadors for sustainable peace.
The training will empower participants to contribute meaningfully, serving as leading voices for the ‘amplification of narratives that are supportive of peace’ as well as teach them how to engage in productive economic ventures.
The Executive Director for WACCE, Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar noted that, research conducted by his organization from 1981 to 2018 shows that more than twelve thousand, seven hundred (12,700)  lives were lost in Chieftaincy and Ethnic disputes.
He added that WACCE has also helped dissuade 21 individuals from being recruited into extremist groups.

The Interior Minister Ambrose Dery called on Ghanaians to support government to create jobs for the youth in order to prevent them joining extremist groups due to unemployment.

Mr. Ambrose Dery said the ministry has met with the West Africa Center for Counter Extremism to share their findings and recommendations.
