The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has reinforced its zero-tolerance stance on domestic abuse following a high-profile assault case captured in a viral video.

Gender Minister Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey visited the survivor to offer reassurance that the full machinery of the State is being deployed to protect her and ensure justice.

Dr. Lartey said the incident highlights the urgent need for stronger community vigilance and prompt reporting of abuse. She emphasised that the Ministry’s priority is not only to support survivors but also to strengthen the national response system that addresses domestic violence.

As part of immediate intervention efforts, the victim is receiving psychosocial counselling, legal assistance, and welfare support to safeguard her recovery and security.

The estranged husband seen in the video and two of his siblings have been remanded into police custody by an Accra Magistrate Court as investigations advance.

The Ministry reiterated that domestic violence remains a national concern requiring collective action. It urged the public to make use of official reporting channels, including the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800-111-222, 055 175 75 75 (WhatsApp), and the Helpline of Hope on 0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900, or report directly to the nearest police station.
