The Ghana Revenue Authority, (GRA) Workers Union has entered into an agreement with KOANS Estates, a real estate developer, to build two bedroom housing units for members of the union.

The Phase one of the agreement has seen the construction of 40 two-bedroom units with the second phase of sixty units expected to be completed within twelve months.

The Chairman of GRAWU, Gilbert Aaron Monyo said the move is part of efforts to bridge the huge housing deficit in Ghana and also help members to own dispute-free affordable houses.

Statistics show that Ghana currently has a housing deficit in excess of 1.7million housing units.

To address this deficit, the country needs a minimum annual delivery of about 85,000 housing units over the next 20 years.

It is for this reason that the Ghana Revenue Authority Workers Union, GRAWU has initiated steps to help workers acquire houses to bring down the housing deficit.

Mr. Monyo said the deal with KOANS seeks to take away the stress individuals go through to acquire lands for construction.

The Chief Executive Officer of KOANS Group of Companies Kofi Anokye urged the public to take advantage of the affordable housing scheme and own a house, stressing that it is more prudent to invest in landed property rather than ponzi schemes that promise unrealistic returns on investment.

The Commissioner, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Isaac Crenstil, who commissioned the first phase of the project and also cut the sod for the second phase of the project, lauded the GRA Workers Union for their bold initiative.

The houses can be bought at between 70 and 80 thousand Ghana Cedis by all public workers.

The houses are also being sold to all public workers at between 70 and 80 thousand Ghana Cedis.
