The Headmaster of the Gyamfi Kumanini Senior High and Technical School in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region, Mr. Joseph Sabin has called on the Ministry of Education, the government and other stakeholders in education to address the infrastructure needs of the school urgently.

According to him in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, the school population has gone up hence the need to improve infrastructure and other amenities in the school to enhance teaching and learning.

Gyamfi Kumanini Senior High Technical School was established as a community day school by the Wamahinso Traditional Council in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region in 1991.

Even though government has absolved the school into the public system, it is still crippled by its infrastructure deficit.

These include lack of science and computer laboratories, assembly hall, Dormitories, inadequate classrooms and furniture and teachers accommodation among others.

A visit to the school revealed that the dining hall also serves as an Assembly hall.

The lack of vital facilities is affecting teaching and learning in the school.

The Headmaster, Mr Joseph Sabin in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana said as the school is only mixed school in the Asutifi North District, its enrollment has increased sharply hence the need to augment the infrastructure.

He mentioned, lack of dormitories, lack of desk for students, assembly hall, teachers bungalow, pickup vehicle and Conference hall as the pressing needs of the school.

He said appeals to the Asutifi North District Assembly to support the school with furniture have yielded no results.

He said the District Assembly started a 6-unit classroom block for the school, but the project has inexplicably come to a halt.

Mr. Sabin said they have also written to the Forestry Commission in the district for support but it is proving futile.

He said even though the Wamahinso traditional authorities are of great help to the School, there is the need for other stakeholders in the education sector to provide the school with the needed facilities.
