Havedzi wins maiden beach soccer super league

Volta regional champions Havedzi Mighty Warriors were 10-0 winners over Marine Stars in the finals of the 2019, Cal Bank Beach Soccer Super League on Sunday in Cape Coast.

Eight (8) teams converged at the Oasis Beach Resort in Cape Coast for the grand finals after the regional qualifiers had produced 2 teams each from Central, Western, Greater Accra and Volta regions.

Havedzi Mighty Warriors picked the status of a true champions after going unbeaten throughout the campaign including a shocking win over Africa champions Keta Sunset in the opening game of the qualifiers in Keta.

The win by Havedzi gingered their volta regional counterparts Keta Sunset who were tagged as pretournament favourite to secured the bronze medal after recording an emphatic 5-2 win over Layoca BSC.

The head of Marketing at CalBank Mr Kofi Siabi applauded the fans for their passionate support. “We are excited about the performance. We have seen an incremental growth and we are gradually covering the coastal belt of Ghana and we hope it gets better in subsequent years. With a lot more investments and efforts beach soccer would become an acceptable and competitive game in Ghana”.

Mighty Warriors pocketed a cash prize of GHS3,500 from CalBank, gold medals and souvenirs following their grand breaking performance against Marine Stars in the finals whiles the runners up took home GHS2,500, silver medals and attractive souvenirs from CalBank.

Scintillating display by Alfred Torsu of Havedzi Mighty Warriors won him the most valuable player whiles best goalkeeper award was taken by Robert Nyadedor of Mighty Warriors.

Theophilus Abaidoo of Marine Stars and Eugene Dekpey of Mighty Warriors finished top joint scorers with 7 goals apiece.
