A Union of citizens who hail from the environs of Bolgatanga, Bongo, Tongo, and Nabdam Area together known as “BONABOTO” in the Upper East Region has presented a cheque donation of GHc15,000 to the management of the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga to support in the establishment of a dialysis centre.
The intervention by the group is also aimed at expressing how concerned they are about the establishment of the facility.
In March this year, the authorities of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital and the Regional Coordinating Council created a fund for donations to procure equipment and establish a dialysis centre for the hospital. The hospital currently does not have a dialysis centre forcing patients with kidney-related problems to travel to Tamale and Wa. For these reasons, BONABOTO mobilised and donated GHc15, 000.00 to support the establishment of the facility.
Professor Samuel Atintono, National President of BONABOTO, explained:
“You noticed that Bolgatanga Regional Hospital is a regional facility, and the dialysis centre is the only facility that treats people with kidney problems. Unfortunately, all these years, when you have kidney disease or any problem to undergo dialysis you have to go to Tamale. The cost of travelling is even a problem. So it is very important because it will benefit the people of these areas.”
Receiving the donation, the acting Medical Director of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Dr. Samuel Aborah, commended BONABOTO for their timely contribution, adding that plans are far advanced for the establishment of the facility.
“It has been the plan of management to set up hemodialysis centre and we have solicited support from benevolent institutions to support the hospital in that regard. So we are very grateful to BONABOTO for this kind gesture,” Dr. Samuel Aborah commended.
The public is still encouraged to forward their donations to the hospital administration.
