A dentist at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, Dr Okley-Anum Wilhelmina, has warned that brushing teeth immediately after eating can damage them. According to her, the right time to brush is 30 minutes after meals.

“Sometimes, brushing right after eating causes more damage, so the actual thing is to brush about 30 minutes after your meals,” she said.

Speaking on GTV’s breakfast show, Dr Okley-Anum emphasized the importance of optimizing oral health, highlighting the role of teeth alignment and braces in achieving strong, healthy teeth. She explained that teeth alignment involves positioning the teeth in the upper and lower jaws to ensure proper functioning, including chewing, smiling, and cleaning.

Dr Okley-Anum advised that people should consider several factors before choosing braces, as there are different types available. She emphasized that proper oral care and maintenance are crucial for strong and healthy teeth, regardless of whether one wears braces or not.

She also explained the development of teeth in children, noting that baby teeth typically begin to fall out around age seven, making way for permanent adult teeth.
