Covid-19 Johnson & Johnson vaccines yet to be deployed- Ghana Health Service

The Expanded Programme for Immunisation team says it is to determine when and where the Johnson and Johnson vaccines would be deployed for the inoculation to begin.

177,000 persons who have never been vaccinated against Covid-19, are expected to be vaccinated at the onset of the exercise likely to take place at identified hotspots.

Head of the Expanded Programme for Immunisation, Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano told GBC News, “said those who are yet to receive their second dose will be served in September.”

Meanwhile, on Ghana’s vaccination drive journey, so far, Ghanaians who are yet to be vaccinated will have to wait until Wednesday, August 11, 2021, to have their turn.

This is because the Expanded Programme for Immunization is yet to deploy the Johnson and Johnson vaccines which arrived over the weekend. 177,600 doses of the vaccines were delivered by the African Union Vaccine Acquisition Trust, although the Food and Drugs Authority is yet to verify its potency.

Currently, Ghana has a deficit of 18.8 million of its population yet to be vaccinated, having a little over 1.2 million people vaccinated since March 2021.

In spite of efforts made by the government, the procurement and pricing of vaccines have been fraught with controversies. The use of intermediaries and legalities of the procurement process found the Minister for Health Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu appearing before a parliamentary probe.
