Covid-19: World Bank cannot dictate to Ghana- Stakeholders

The World Bank is working with the Government of Ghana to procure vaccines to the tune of $135 million to vaccinate 13 million Ghanaians.

World Bank Country Director, Pierre Frank Laporte, who disclosed this said Ghana will not be able to use the financial assistance from the World bank to purchase Sputnik-V vaccines because it has not been sanctioned by WHO.

This comes at a time when Ghana has been negotiating for the purchase of Sputnik-V vaccines from Russia.

Reacting to this, Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Titus Beyuo, said it is not right for the World Bank to dictate to Ghana the type of vaccines to be bought, in spite of the funding being received.

National Chairman of the Coalition of NGOs in Health, Bright Amissah-Nyarko described the situation as unfortunate.
