The Ministry of Health has assured Ghanaians that the country has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), dismissing as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 deaths.
In a statement, the Ministry said it had taken note of a publication allegedly attributed to South Africa’s SABC News, which claimed that Ebola infections and deaths in Ghana had risen significantly. It stressed that the information was entirely false and should be disregarded.
The Ministry stated unequivocally that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola and urged the public not to spread or rely on unverified information that could cause fear and panic.
It explained that recent visits by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to the country’s points of entry, laboratories and treatment facilities were part of routine preparedness measures aimed at strengthening Ghana’s readiness to prevent and respond to any potential public health emergency.
According to the Ministry, these proactive measures should not be interpreted as evidence of an Ebola outbreak in the country.
The Ministry also urged the public to rely only on official updates from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service on public health matters and to refrain from sharing false or unverified information on social media.
