FDA to ensure 177,600 doses of Covid-19 vaccines received are fit for purpose

The Director of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has disclosed to the GBC, that the Foods and Drugs Administration would verify the just received Covid-19 Johnson and Johnson vaccines to ensure the Vaccines are fit for purpose.
The Ministry of Health took delivery of 177,600 doses of the first consignment of Johnson and Johnson single-dose Vaccines.
Ghana is due for another batch next week. A total of 500, 000 doses of the Vaccines are expected to be received this month, out of 6.4 million doses meant for some African countries this month.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Tina Mensah, who received the items on behalf of the Ministry, said arrival of ”the vaccines will resurrect government’s stagnant vaccination drive.”
She urged those who are yet to receive their Vaccines to hold themselves up in readiness.
The Vaccines procured under the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust, AVAT, is to support governments Vaccination drive across the country.
AVAT is an initiative by the AU Member States to pool their resources to collectively purchase vaccines to safeguard the health of the African population.
Ghana is the second to receive the Johnson and Johnson vaccine after Togo.
