Ghana Covid-19 deaths hit over 1,000 mark

Ghana’s Covid-19 deaths have surpassed the one thousand mark as the country battles a third wave of the disease.

By the official case count released by the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) yesterday a total of one thousand and one fatalities have been recorded since the disease hit the country on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

The numbers appear to have tripled with four more months to go to the end of the year.

Vaccinations have been intensified across the country as more doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines are scheduled to be administered in the Greater Accra Region from Tuesday, August 31 for those who took the first jabs in March.

Per the case count yesterday, six thousand, nine hundred and five patients are on admission for the virus. Sixty-two are in critical condition, while 149 are in severe conditions.

The numbers are expected to increase as these are data collated as of Monday, August 23.

The country’s total cumulative cases stand at one hundred and seventeen thousand and forty, with one hundred and nine thousand, one hundred and thirty-four recoveries and discharges.
