The Ghana Health Service (GHS), says surveillance has been heightened at all the country’s borders in the wake of Ebola and Marburg virus which have already claimed one life in neigbouring Guinea.
The Service is therefore collaborating with the Ghana Immigration Service to ensure that all immigrants are thoroughly screened.
The Marburg virus is reported to belong to the same family as Ebola, and the virus is considered to be highly infectious.
Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye at a media briefing noted that the outbreak of Marburg in the West African Region presents challenges to the Public Health system in the country.
He was, however, quick to add that Ghana has the capacity to detect these two viruses in case they enter the country.
The Marburg virus is transmitted through bats and spreads among humans through bodily fluids.
