The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) have confirmed two additional Mpox cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to four as of today, May 18, 2025.
According to a press release from the GHS, the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) identified one new case in the Greater Accra Region and another in the Western Region. Preliminary assessments indicate that these newly confirmed cases have no known epidemiological link to the earlier reported cases.
The respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent further spread.
Mpox is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.
Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
The GHS strongly advises the public to:
- Practice regular hand hygiene,
- Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,
- Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
The Ministry of Health and the GHS have called on media houses to support public education efforts to raise awareness and provide accurate information about Mpox.
