The Ghana Health Service (GHS), has launched the national Yellow Fever prevention campaign which expects to have about five million people vaccinated in the country.

With the exception of the Upper West Region, which has already had its turn, the seven-day campaign, beginning on November 28 to December 4, is free of charge and targets people between 10 to 60 years. It will be conducted in 65 districts in nine regions.

The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare appealed to Chiefs and MMDCEs to encourage the people to turn out in their numbers to be vaccinated when the exercise begins next week.

Six million doses of vaccines for the prevention campaign have been approved by global vaccine alliance (GAVI).

The Bono Ahafo Regional Director of Health, Dr. Kofi Issa called on Ghanaians to turn up for the exercise scheduled for next week.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare assured the general public that the vaccine is safe.

The Programme Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Dr. George Bonsu stated that about 5 million people from the 65 districts will receive a dose of yellow fever vaccine irrespective of their vaccination history.
