Ghana’s first self-manufactured vaccine will be on the market by 2026. Products of the private led consortium DEK Vaccines Institute will include vaccines for malaria, cholera, typhoid, phenomena and HPV against cervical cancer.

The Chief Executive of DEKS Vaccines Institute, Dr. Kofi Nsiah-Opoku announced this when officials of the International Vaccines Institute, led by its Director General, Dr. Jerome Kim visited some institutions in Ghana including the Food and Drugs Board to among other things solicit Ghana’s support towards the establishment of the African Vaccine Alliance.

In 2020, President Akufo-Addo signed the UNAIDS Public Letter on People’s Vaccine which was a campaign calling for public accessibility to the COVID-19 vaccine.

He joined other World Leaders to write an open letter in order to encourage the distribution of free vaccines at no cost to all people.

This was because of concerns raised that people in richer countries may have quicker access to the vaccine than in poor countries.
