The next phase of vaccination against Covid-19 with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine received on Saturday is expected to commence on Friday, August 13.

This was revealed by the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service Dr. Franklin AsieduBekoe in an interview with GBC NEWS.

Dr. Asiedu Bekoe said orientation is ongoing for staff of the Service who will be administering the jabs since it is a new brand of vaccine being introduced in Ghana.

He told Nathaniel Nartey that Friday’s Vaccination will focus on the two major hotspots which are Greater Accra and Ashanti.

Dr. Asiedu Bekoeadvised organisations to adopt the shift system if possible to reduce the number of people at workplaces.

This he said will ensure that protocols are adhered to ensure a reduction in the death rate. His comments follow the latest reports on the Ghana Health Service website indicating that Coronavirushas claimed a total of 545 lives eight months into 2021.

This implies the number of COVID-19 related deaths, which stood at 335 at the end of 2020, has almost doubled this year.

The death toll currently stands at 880.

Health experts have raised concerns about the rising cases attributing it to the Delta variant and the general lack of adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols in Ghana.
