Stakeholders have called for the intensification and enforcement of COVID-19 protocols following the latest update of cases in the country.

Active cases have risen to  2,247 as the death toll surpassed the 800 mark.

Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, GMA, Dr. Titus Beyuo told GBC NEWS that the rise in deaths should be expected.

This is due to the low vaccination rate and the public neglect of the covid-19 safety protocols.

He told Nathaniel Nartey that such predictions do not make doctors prophet of doom adding that it is based on scientific evidence.

National Chairman of the Coalition of NGOs in Health, Bright Amissah-Nyarko called for the ban on social gatherings to be brought back as a means of controlling the rising number of deaths.

Mr Amissah-Nyarko said the Coalition is monitoring the situation in Achimota school where a number of students have recorded the highly transmissible Delta variant of covid-19 as well as other schools and would recommend the closure of all schools in the country if the situation worsens.
