Government urged to set up development fund to support herbal industry

The Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annan Adjor has called on government to set up a development fund to support the herbal industry and invest in research into plant medicine.

This, will help build a better herbal industry that will complement health care delivery as about 70 percent of Ghanaians depend on herbal remedies for their illnesses.

Nii Annan Adjor who was speaking in Ashaiman, said the importance of herbal medicine in health care delivery can no longer be under estimated.

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, Nana Kwadwo Obiri urged government to take steps to ensure that herbal practitioners and herbal medicine are given the needed window of opportunities.

Chief Executive Officer of the Herbal Clinic, Nana Addo Forson assured the public of the Facility’s readiness to work with the FDA and other stakeholders to ensure that the public have safe and efficacious herbal medicine.

He urged other traditional herbal practitioners to register with all relevant authorities to safeguard the health of their clients.
