The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to show leniency toward Ms Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse who was recently queried over alleged unprofessional comments made about him.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health and signed by its spokesperson, Tony Goodman, the ministry confirmed awareness of a circulating query letter concerning Ms Aboagye’s remarks, which have drawn public attention on social media.

The minister commended the Ghana Health Service for upholding professionalism and enforcing its code of conduct but urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in addressing the matter. He noted that both he and the government value constructive criticism and diverse opinions as vital to building an open and tolerant health sector.

Mr Akandoh also encouraged health workers to express their views responsibly and respectfully, stressing that open dialogue contributes to the growth and development of the sector.

The statement clarified that the ministry has no objection to lawful demonstrations, describing them as “legitimate expressions of frustration” and a constitutional right. However, it cautioned against the use of abusive language or acts of indiscipline during such activities.

The ministry further reminded all health professionals to exercise caution in their public communication and social media engagement to maintain professionalism and decorum.
