Health Minister urges new pharmacists to lead fight against opioid misuse

Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, addressed a new group of pharmacists being inducted into the profession, calling on them to take a leading role in preventing opioid misuse in Ghana. 

The ceremony, organized by the Pharmacy Council of Ghana, focused on the theme of empowering young pharmacists to tackle this critical public health challenge.

The Minister was with the new people who had dedicated their time, hard work, and perseverance, he said.

Akandoh highlighted the diverse roles pharmacists play in Ghana’s healthcare system, from providing care to educating the public and safeguarding public health. He also said, “The landscape had a direct impact on the well-being of people.”

The Minister called for action in regards to opioid misuse that had been going on for years in the country. It’s an issue that requires action, he said

The MahamaCares and Free Primary Health Care projects that can make the health sector get to everywhere and can handle chronic diseases at the community.

To conclude, he reminded the new people and advised them to do their work with compassion, ethics, and excellence.

The Ministry of Health congratulated and commended the Pharmacy Council for putting out excellent healthcare delivery.
