The government of the Republic of Korea has offered Ghana 10,000 pieces of disposable face shields worth $50,000 to the Ministry of Health to support government in its fight against the Covid-19.
The donation follows a $650,000 grant from Korea’s government to Ghana to procure more vaccines.
Korea’s Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs, Ham Sang Wook, who made the presentation said his government is committed to helping Ghana and other African countries see the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said his country in doing this donated more than two hundred million dollars worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), consumables and PCR test kits to African Countries including Ghana in 2020.
“I am pleased to say that Korea wishes to additionally provide 10,000 face shields in assistance to Ghana’s fight against Covid-19.”
“As no one is safe until everyone is safe, I believe that the International Community should be united in solidarity to defeat this pandemic.”
The Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the Korean government.
“We highly recognise the support of your government in the implementation of several initiatives in Ghana. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, both KOFIH and KOICA have been supportive of the health sector in Ghana including donations of PPEs and other medical supplies.”
He added, “KOICA has signed a grant aid arrangement with us to further support Ghana to procure vaccines in line with Ghana’s Covid-19 vaccination agenda.”
Mr. Agyemang-Manu noted that Ghana looks forward to more collaboration with their country.
Ghana has also received support in the areas of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, Community based health Planning Services and Ghana’s global Security Agenda from the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), as well as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The foundation also facilitated the policy Cooperation between Ghana and Korea’s National Health Insurance Scheme through capacity building. The Ministry of Health also hailed the Country Representative of KOFIH Hyejin Jung who had ended her three-year duty tour of the country.
