Members of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists have resumed work after the association called off a six-day nationwide strike which left many patients stranded at public health facilities.
Most of the laboratories at Korle-Bu were fully functioning when GBC-NEWS visited the facility.
The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists on May 27, declared a nationwide strike.
This follows the decision by Medical Laboratory Scientists of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, KATH to lay down their tools to press home demands for the removal of the two hematologists appointed to head the lab unit of the hospital.
Following this development, the National Labour Commission secured an injunction from an Accra High Court ordering the Lab Scientists to resume work. The court order was however ignored by the lab scientists.
The Association, however, called off the strike effective yesterday, June first after meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Ghana Medical Association and other health stakeholders which yielded assurance from the committee.
This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Korle-Bu Chapter of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists Francis Kwakye Antwi.
Some of the patients affirmed laboratory activities have returned to normal.
Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Dennis Adu-Gyasi, hopes with the intervention of the parliamentary committee, the issue will be resolved quickly.
