In a bid to strengthen the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and ease pressure during renewal of the card, the management of the scheme, has introduced a renewal mobile application, named E-renewal to enable subscribers renew their NHIS cards without hustle and pay the cost involved through their mobile money wallet.

Under this system, subscribers will be given a short code, details of which will be announced by Management at the launch of this new system next month.

The Deputy Director of the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the Scheme, Oswald Mensah, made this known when he briefed stakeholders about the system in Koforidua.

According to him, the system is generated to manage all claims electronically. It will also help to remove loopholes in the current system to sustain the scheme.

He disclosed that 18 million people have been enrolled onto the scheme, adding that plans are far advanced to introduce another application for the registration process, since the number of subscribers keeps increasing.

The team later paid a courtesy call on the Krontihene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng to brief him on the project.

Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng commended the authorities for the project, adding that it will help to strengthen health care delivery in the country.

He suggested that the NHIA study the health schemes of developed countries to help strengthen Ghana’s health scheme.
