The Parliamentary Committee on Health will this afternoon meet with members of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, the Ghana Medical Association and the Council of Presidents of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions over the strike by Laboratory Scientists.

The Committee on Friday appealed to the striking laboratory scientists to return to work while their leadership meets with the committee for an amicable resolution of the impasse. The National Labour Commission last Friday secured an interlocutory injunction against the strike by the laboratory scientists and were expected to resume work yesterday.

However, checks across all public health facilities indicate the striking members of GAMLS, have not reported for work. Speaking on Behind the News, PRO of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist, Dr Dennis Adu Gyasi explained that the NLC order was received just yesterday, reason why members are still on strike. He was hopeful the meeting with the Committee on Health will be fruitful to bring an end to the ongoing impasse with the GMA.

Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Titus Beyuo expressed displeasure with the stance of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists to continue their strike despite moves to end issues. He said GMA will fight to ensure that what is best for Ghanaians and the health sector is maintained.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions, Dr. Shiraz Issahaku, is of the view that issues raised by the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists could have been resolved in a manner which could have prevented it from generating a strike.

He believes the meeting this afternoon will normalize situations.
